OMG JOHN. In that scene in the pilot where he's yelling at Weir 'cause she won't let him go rescue the folk what got taken by the Wraith, he says something like, "We've GOT to rescue them. Because [here he looks really freakin' angry] IT'S THE RIGHT THING TO DO!" And I seriously had this moment where I thought his behavior would make a lot more sense if he had said "Because I WANT BLOOD! BLOOOOOOOOD!" He's just... it's probably just Joe Flanigan overacting, but there's something going on there that isn't just a dude who wants to do the noble thing.

But I can't figure out if what I chose to read as John's layered, complex personality is just the result of bad writing plus indifferent acting. Oh well -- I guess this is the complaint about every terrible show that inspires tons of fanfic. If it were tight and complete there would be no need.
