[livejournal.com profile] jacquez posted a similar list this morning and it reminded me that I've been meaning to do this.

So, to the best of my recollection, here is where I stand for books since roughly January 1, 2007:

The Bourne Identity, Robert Ludlum. (Don't recommend AT ALL. Movies much, much better.)

Norwegian Wood, by Haruki Murakami. (Pretty great.)

Twilight, by Stephenie Meyer. (Oh, EDWARD.)

Magic for Beginners, by Kelly Link (I'm on the fence about this one.)

American Born Chinese, by Gene Yang (MADE OF AWESOME)

To Dance, by Siena Cherson Siegel and Mark Siegel (Eh.)

The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing, Traitor to the Nation, Vol. 1: The Pox Party, by MT Anderson (Great.)

Sandman, Vol. 1, by Neil Gaiman. (Hmm... better than it had any right to be, says I.)

Awwwww. I LOVED the Bourne books when I read them in my late teens! However, I'm guessing it's one of those things like LOTR: if you watch the movies before reading the books, the differences are so striking that you are forced to like one a lot more than the other. *grin* Me, I prefer the books!

Do you know, I have not read a SINGLE ONE of the other books on your list? FOR SHAME.

I actually love The Bourne Identity, but I read it before I watched the movie, which I hated. Maybe you can only like one version of it, like watching the movie annihilates any hope for the book and vice versa.

Wow. I just posted the exact same thought as you about the Bourne books. Must be true, then.

When I want to hook friends on Sandman, I start them on Volume 2 and tell them to catch up with Volume 1 later; Volume 2 stands alone and I don't think Gaiman really finds his voice until the very end of Volume 1, with "The Sound of Her Wings."

Yeah, that's definitely the sense I got. I'm looking forward to vol. 2, I have to say!

We have to talk about this the next time we hang out, because I seriously cannot find any redeeming qualities in that book! I need to have it pitched to me by someone who gets it, clearly.

Hey, if you posted a similar list, I'm sure the same would be true for me! There's a lot of books in the world!
