I'm in my parents' house right now. My grandmother has just moved to their neighborhood (so that she can be near them as her health declines) and they are leaving town tomorrow; hence I am here to help granny move in and keep her company while my folks are gone.

It's colder here than in NYC and my parents' cat HATES ME. Hey, that rhymed.

Here are some links to things that have made me very happy recently.

JEEVES & WOOSTER RECS AHOY-HOY. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] lizardspots and [livejournal.com profile] goss for links to many of these.

Jeeves and the Question of Fidelity, by [livejournal.com profile] weaselwoman13. Bertie meets a friendly young man during a night of drunken revelry and soon the Wooster-Jeeves love nest is threatened with blackmail. Also, Bertie plays the piano a lot -- an iron-clad kink of mine, if anything associated with this fluffiest of fluffy fandoms could be called anything so serious and intense as a "kink", let alone an ironclad one.

Jeeves and the Beauty of Labour, by [livejournal.com profile] woffproff. Jeeves scares yet another determined young lady away from Bertie, and in so doing reveals something about himself. OK, wait, that actually summarizes about 95% of the stories in this fandom, so here's something more concrete: Jeeves has a niece, who takes photographs. There.

Jeeves and the Blessed Indiscretion, by [livejournal.com profile] astolat. Bertie does some (rather successful) detective work on behalf of Jeeves, who is threatened with blackmail. Here, I especially liked this bit, where Bertie is still trying to figure out what Jeeves was being blackmailed for:

'Jeeves,' I said firmly, 'this is bloody nonsense. If you are unfit, the rest of the world had better blow its brains out now and put an end to the music. What is it, murder? Although really, I can't believe you would be so clumsy as to let a second-rate weasel like this Foxley catch you at it, if it were.'

'I am an invert,' he said.

'Oh, ah,' I said, and blushed.

Jeeves and an Excess of Prudence, by [livejournal.com profile] rowen_r. This story has everything. A goose, an almost uncannily flattering suit, a pining Jeeves, a charming heroine, a handsome butler, and one of my favorite songs (which Bertie plays on the piano. SCORE!)

Wooster's School for Wayward Girls, by [livejournal.com profile] yahtzee63. Sappho, people. Sappho. Also, a very sweet epiphany on Bertie's part. I heart this story. I heart it so.

My Man Jeeves, by Sue. I love this story with an unreasoning passion. It was the first J&W I ever read and I have large portions of it memorized. Here's a favorite bit:

Jeeves was generally out about his marketing at this hour, and so breezing into the des. res. in a jolly state of all's-right-with-the-world but carrying the handicap of a distinctly rumbly tum I formed the notion of building myself an omelette. I mean it can't be all that difficult, Jeeves does it all the time. I've seen him do it. All you do is crack the eggs into a sort of dish thingy, chivvy them around for a while with a fork, slosh in a quantity of milk and then Bob is one's mater's frater, so to speak.

All That Glitters Is Not Gold, by [livejournal.com profile] veronamay. This one actually gets a little explicit, which is unusual for this fandom -- but only as explicit as it's possible to get and still be anywhere near Bertie-voice. It's pretty charming. I especially like it when Bertie describes his *own ear* as "shell-like".

Jeeves Makes A Move, by [livejournal.com profile] veronamay. Bertie in his pajamas, sitting on the floor in front of the fire late Christmas Eve, with a wistful expression... seriously, people, this story could have gone on to describe how Jeeves fisted him while Bertie wept crystalline tears and I still would have loved it. You'll be happy to know it doesn't feature any fisting or crystalline tears, though. Just cuteness. Sort of smarmy, which is something I usually don't go for but I totally buy it in this fandom.

Jeeves and Wooster Fan-Art/Story thingie/Cryptographic Romance, by [livejournal.com profile] lucylou. Check it out, man. It's AWESOME.

As Virtuous Men Pass, by [livejournal.com profile] flambeau. I don't only love this story for its final line, but I surely do love that final line. Go read it and then come back and we can talk about how hilarious and hot and unexpected and hot that is. I mean, just think about it. cut for pornographic speculation about what comes next. )
