I ordered my prom dress to be made about a month and a half before actual event and gave measurements that were about a size and a half smaller than actual. I kept a picture o what dress was supposed to look like by my mirrior and by the time dress arrived, it fit perfectly!
Just find a source of inspiration and you can do it.
