A Year in the Life (LFoDH, McClane/Farrell)

Here via [livejournal.com profile] svilleficrecs...

I haven't seen the latest instalment of the franchise, but what an interesting pairing this is!

Matt's a lovely POV-character here, sympathetic and funny (the timing of that The truth is... digression is just perfect) and McClane's canonical action-hero qualities, through Matt's eyes, are indeed the stuff of extreme hotness: the essential decency of the man; the self-deprecating humour alternating with moments of inscrutability; and of course the strength and reflexes and solidity and adaptability and endurance: His muscled body is scarred and unlovely, but he moves with the grace of someone whose strength is ingrained and functional.

What's interesting about McClane's low-key Everyman heroism in this context is how surprisingly comfortable it makes this first-time encounter (and I don't mean that in a negative way at all; on the contrary, I find the care he takes and the trust he inspires here quite hot): John is right there, looking down at him, and Matt realizes he can't -- doesn't even really want to -- hide anything from John McClane. From this man who has seen him at his weakest, his most afraid, and also at his very best.

Thanks for writing!
