Yay!

Another month has gone by and I'm not pregnant again!

Thanks to birth control, I can A) have a sex life, and B) go to work every morning secure in the very probable expectation that I will not have to profoundly disrupt/rearrange my life to make room for a baby until I damn well want to.

(And here's hoping, by the way, that when the time comes conceiving will be as easy as avoiding has been...)

When I stop to think about it, I'm usually very, very glad I was born when I was and not fifty, a hundred, or a thousand years earlier. Whatever threats, inequalities, and complications we face now, and there are many of them, prosperity and life expectancy are much higher on average and in the majority of individual cases than they've ever been for human beings in the entire history of our species.

Lately I've been feeling awfully gloomy about our political situation, and about the direction people seem to be heading in. It helps to take a few minutes every now and then to appreciate things like birth control, antibiotics, running water, public transportation, and, MOST IMPORTANTLY (obvs), my beloved little iBook, Dinah.

Oh, Dinah. Thank god I wasn't born in a cave with no outlets. How could I have updated my Livejournal then?
