I'm pmssing especially hard this week, so take my emotional state with a grain of salt, but there's this story about this three-year old girl who was abandoned by her mom in a building lobby downtown. Apparently her soon-to-be divorced parents had just been fighting, and the mother yelled "Go away! I don't want you anymore!" and stormed off, with the little girl weeping and trying to follow her.
OK, at this point, I'm already getting excessively distressed. But when I read the next part...
"Cops initially said the child had been left to fend for herself shortly after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday with nothing more than a few new toys and a "Hello Kitty" schoolbag."
...I totally fell apart. HER HELLO KITTY SCHOOLBAG. Let the pathos-potential in Hello Kitty never be underestimated.
