I don't think LiveJournal has much to worry about in terms of real liability, and I think they're being excessively cautious in deleting reported accounts. But that's my opinion, and I'm not a First Amendment lawyer, or even any kind of lawyer at all. I'm just someone with a college degree in English Lit, so I'm happy to admit that my opinion probably isn't worth much. I just wanted to state it for the record, because it's nice to say what you think.

I don't post fic, so I doubt I'd ever become a target, but I have still made the change I see a lot of my flist making: I've replaced all my interests with "fiction is fictional, freedom of expression, freedom of speech." It's probably a meaningless gesture, but it made me feel all righteous and warm, so there it is.

I've seen other people do that too - after all, it doesn't get more basic than that.

My spouse uses StumbleUpon for his blogging, and he ended up changing his default icon (and convincing legions of his friends to do the same) to the Guy Fawkes mask. Heh!
