Post-Vividcon season (late august) is like when vids finally ripen and appear on the market. Suddenly, after a whole year of occasionally spotting them, overpriced and under-ripe, and only in specialty markets, they're everywhere. Abundant and flavorful.

June is for local strawberries, July is for cheap basil, early august is for cherries, late august is for vids, and September is for tomatoes and early apples.

I don't go to vividcon, but I imagine sometimes that it's like a big harvesting party, with all the farmers and fieldworkers of fandom bustling about, joyously plucking the fruits of their labor off the branch and showing it off to their fellow farmers, then graciously sending it out into the world for the rest of us.

This post brought to you by too little sleep, too little tea, and a mind still reeling from [livejournal.com profile] geekturnedvamp's Vividcon round-up show on Sunday.

Shows I have (renewed or new) interest in after Sunday:

- BSG
- Carnivale
- Dexter

Guys, I don't have time for these shows. But I waaaant to waaatch them.

*Sigh*

Dexter is only 13 (?12?) eps, so that's not so bad to catch up on, and you have more than a month until the new season starts. ;) Would Dexter be a new one or a rewatch for you?

Wow, I'm so late responding to this. Oops!

Dexter would be a new one for me, and it's 100% because of the couple of vids I've seen -- suddenly I'm kinda fascinated.

Dexter is... just so fucking made of wow. The lead is... No one came close to earning the Emmy the way he did and the fact that he wasn't nominated was a frigging crime. It's shot gorgeously, it's got SICK, black humor and a great season arc and a supporting cast that is first rate across the board and they just... seriously, it started off wowing me and kept getting deeper and more psychologically awesome as it approached the end. It's also great to catch up on because of the 13-ep-ness of the season and the fact that S2 starts on a couple of weeks (though the first two eps are floating around.)

Seriously, between the awesomeness of the premise to the execution, from the pitch-perfect and beautiful opening credits (which start ep 2, the pilot doesn't have them) to the absolutely stunning finale, it just... this is why the creative-elbow-room of cable was created.

And Michael C. Hall is flat out a fucking genius. End of story.

Er... now I'm all itching for new episodes, damnit.

What about that Canadian/South African one? That's the one I'm most interested in, to be honest. The rest seem to have emotional baggage. Which, I'm down for at times, just not right now.

Yeah, cutting up the ladies? Not so much into that. The collaboration by People Who Speak English With Funny Accents looked cool, though.

[livejournal.com profile] miss_pryss, I have a shiny commercial DVD of the BSG miniseries (that preceded the regular seasons), if you want. It's only like 3 hours altogether --- similar commitment to watching a movie. *tempts*

(Oh, and I have all the eps of the 3 seasons too. But they're not consistently as good as the miniseries, which is AWESOME.)

Oh! Thank you (belatedly) for the offer -- but our friend Cassandra has already pimped me to the fullest. :) I just haven't had a chance to watch them yet!

That one looked awesome, no? (I'm so late replying -- my bad...) I hear you about emotional baggage. I seem to pick such anxiety-causing shows to love. Ugly Betty was the exception, but even that one got kind of heavy towards the end of last season.
