Guys, my iBook G4 is having a little trouble.

Under normal circumstances, when I'm not using it I just close the top and it sleeps itself. When I open it, it wakes up.

Except lately, I close the lid and it goes to sleep... and then when I open it again an hour or so later, it doesn't wake up. The kernel seems to be hanging, and nothing will revive it except a restart (holding down the power button).

Now, weirdly, this doesn't seem to happen when I sleep the machine *before* I shut it. So I'm trying to train myself to sleep it before I shut the lid. But still, I'm a little worried.

Have any of you guys had this kind of trouble?

Do you mean you almost never turn it off? Or do you just mean if you're not using it for a bit you sleep it? Because the computer does need to get turned off every once in a while. It can be damaging to internal components to leave them running too long (heat issues, RAM or logic board problems), and some things like kernel problems or OS issues only get checked during the startup process.

It might not be that this is causing your problem, but it's still good practice, and it might help/keep you from having worse issues later.

I do mean that. It gets restarted probably once a month on average. Of course, lately, it's getting restarted every time I need to use it, since it's hanging in sleep mode. Thanks for the tip -- I'll try to give it some resting time every now and then.
