I need some crafting stuff and I'm too lazy/busy to go shopping for it IRL. Therefore: can someone plz rec me online shops that are...

a) not overpriced
- and -
b) not likely to oops accidentally lose my credit card number to data-mining identity thieves (ie, with payments managed through paypal, or amazon or some other large-scale operation with decent security)

... where I can get:

- fleecy fabric like microfleece

- embroidery thread

- embroidery needles

- etc

???

Thanks!

For total simplicity, I'd try Joann Fabric at joann.com. They have sales a lot, and have good prices on basics.

joann.com was going to be my suggestion.

amazon also sells this kind of thing directly or through their umbrella'd vendors.

geekturnedvamp sent me over to tell you:

fabric.com carries the REALLY GOOD fleecy stuff -- higher quality than most local stores -- at discount. Search their site for "minky". Occasionally they mark some down lower to clear colors or overstocks. They do a coupon for first purchase http://www.fabric.com/SitePages/FirstTime.aspx and cut a 39" 'yard'. Good folks. They also have fleece & panels priced low from time to time. (The "minky spa fleece" has to be hemmed/finished on seams, but it feels DIVINE for robes -- super soft on both sides and very drapey.)

Joann's good for the craft basics like thread and needles. Get on their e-mailing list, they have a 40% off coupon (any one item) virtually every week.

Cheers, r

Thanks, I knew we could count on you!

P.S. I have discovered that there is YARN on Etsy... I am thinking I need to stay away from Etsy. *g*

PS - I've bought much fleece at JoAnn (and at Hancock Fabrics) to use in group/class projects - but for my beloveds I use the higher grade from fabric.com. It's more silky/fluffy to start with, and after a couple of washes the quality difference is striking. So, depends on intended use. (The cats' nests are lined with JoAnn's, but when I forget to put the yardage behind a closed door, they clearly prefer Minkee [g].)

Also, if you want thick, double-sided fleece -- this time of year there are excellent-quality pieces on clearance sales in the form of throws and blankets in crib or lap to king size, often cheaper than yard goods. Any bed, bath, home, department store has 'em, and lots of clothing and department stores featured them as gifts. Online, look at Target, LNT, any retailer whose general quality is good -- I'd pass on WalMart unless I had my hand on the fabric, but Tuesday Morning occasionally has fleece made out of SILK.

This is so great! Thanks! I'm actually looking for pretty cheap/light fleece to practice making little stuffed animals with, and it had occurred to me as well that it might make the most sense to just buy some blankies. So maybe I'll do that... but the tip about the minky is terrific for when I really get going. Thanks again!
