... or "Handsome Batman Busts Out Of The Pokey," as I call it in my head, is pretty okay! But I'm only about a third of the way through season 1, so pls no spoilers.

OH, HANDSOME BATMAN! You are so reserved and competent. And handsome!

I saw it; I enjoyed it!

I've got INCEPTION on my mind... in particular, Arthur and Eames. Mmmm. I figure some of you all might be similarly, uh, interested, so here are some Arthur/Eames stories I've enjoyed:

Undone, by [livejournal.com profile] tailoredshirt

Both Feet On The Ground, by [livejournal.com profile] andrealyn

So, I continue to love Leverage.

Not much to say on that front except that Nate has been so much less unbearable! And of course the holy trinity of hitter thief and hacker continue to rock my world with their unbearable awesomeness.

Also (I think I've said this before) this season seems to be much less stupid! Or else turning thirty made me more stupid, which, actually? May in fact be the case.

I recently gave MAD MEN a try but found it a little too...portentious? In the "pompous and weighty" sense. I'm very impressed by it, but ultimately left cold by it. Which, in fact, is how I felt about INCEPTION in every way except that I'm now HUNGERING for Arthur/Eames fic.

In other news, I lost 20 pounds (on purpose).

Cut for extended weight-loss talk )

Doing some belated spring cleaning, and I've got some DVD sets of fannish TV shows that could use a good home.

- Horatio Hornblower - the 8-DVD set (2005 edition) of the AMC miniseries with Ioan Gruffudd

- Heroes, season 1

- Stargate Atlantis, season 1

All of the DVDs themselves are in fine shape; the packaging on the Hornblower and SGA sets is a little dog-eared.

I'm thinking $20 each for Horatio Hornblower and Heroes; $15 for SGA. Leave a comment or email me at miss_pryss at livejournal dot com if you're interested!

Free shipping within the continental US; if you're somewhere else we can work something out, though.

So my mom is an artist and she's had a series of incompetent (though inexpensive) web designers maintaining/redesigning her website for her over the years. The most recent was of the "cargo cult" school of web design - he seems to have blindly copied other people's code without knowing what it DOES, and as a result she has a website that looks okay in a browser but is nearly impossible to tweak or update because of all the useless or misused junk in the code.

Mister Smarty-Pants is cleaning up the code for her in his spare time, but she needs someone who can actually do this as a professional gig, with reliable turnaround times for updates and such. This is not an especially high-paying job so I'm not looking for someone terribly fancy; just someone who knows their stuff, who can take over where Mister S-P leaves off.

Know anyone? Get in touch with me at miss_pryss at livejournal dot com and let's talk.

Did Leverage suddenly get...better? Like, not as embarrassingly badly written? I've actually enjoyed the last two episodes as television and not just as fodder for my late night thoughts about Parker and Hardison and Eliot.

Holy crap, you guys, I made a pie. A good pie. I feel like I'm finally an adult.*

At some point in the last few months I sort of lost track of the fact that Leverage is an actual program broadcast on television for anyone to view, with actors and stuff, and not a mass hallucination/construction of the fannish hive mind. Possibly because I enjoy the actual show so much less than the fic.

Time to DL the first few eps of the new season. It's ok if I fast forward through any Nate-and-Sophie scenes, right?

Things are not 100% awesome right now, but I'm finding great solace in CHUCK, which, why did nobody tell me? No spoilers past 1st season, pls, awaiting Netflix discs in mail.

I've also developed a keen new appreciation for Adam Baldwin, and had to go back and watch most of Firefly again, oh, my life she is so hard. So hard.

Her name is Persephone, Percy for short. Not our choice of name (former owner's) but it'll do. :)
miss_pryss: (Doggie loves kitty!)
YOU GUYS I AM GETTING A KITTY! A REAL-LIFE HONEST TO GOD FELINE COMPANION!

Our friend can't keep her 8-year-old Devon Rex any longer so Mr. Smarty-Pants and I are adopting the little lady. Her name is Persephone! Percy for short! She's a weird sort of calico/tabby/pink color! She's allergic to everything and eats prescription catfood! She likes cuddles and milk-top toys and naps in warm places!

I have only the most tenuous of ideas who James Gunn is, but apparently he polled his significant circle of... facebook friends? I guess? to see which celebrities they want to fuck. Heteronormativity aside, the results are pretty entertaining.

People who enjoy or have enjoyed Batman comics - with a special emphasis on all those weird, messed up Robins he keeps around - may enjoy this funny, informative, slash-goggled series of strips:

So this year was my first Yuletide, and I'm not sure I'll ever be able to top it. I received a wonderful story, and I wrote a story in a wonderful fandom.

The fandom is "I am Maru," which, for the uninitiated, is the blog of a Japanese house cat who loves to jump into boxes.

The story is called "[I succeeded in crawling into the breast of my big boss]."

It was such a pleasure discovering that this fandom had been nominated - that it even counted as a fandom! I've been reading the blog obsessively for most of the year, and the opportunity to write a little story about my number one favorite neko (after Hello Kitty, natch) was very, very welcome!

Thanks to all the Yuletide / AO3 wizards for making it all happen. What a lovely way to start the new year!

Guys, my yuletide writer wrote me an AMAZING story!

The fandom is From Eroica With Love, and the story is called Breaking and Entering, and I cannot even begin to express how much I love it.

But I'll try!

It's long, and plotty, and beautifully angsty, and so perfectly in character. AND, and and and! It's full of details like totally convincing lock-picking, and Dorian referring to Klaus as "shouty," and hurt/comfort, sorta, and that slow bloom of understanding on Klaus's part, and the steady devotion on Dorian's part, complicated and strengthened by his wonderfully complex ethical code.

AND, Klaus looking at Dorian's rear end.

I LOVE IT SO MUCH THANK YOU YULETIDE FAIRY YOU HAVE MADE ME THE LUCKIEST YULE-GIRL OF ALL!!!!!

Last year I stayed up so late until the archive opened! The whole world was asleep except for all of us, remember? And all of those stories! In the dead of night!

But tonight I think I am toooooo sleepy. So I'll drift off with the pleasure of knowing the great Yuletide machine, powered by its astonishing army of mods and coders and pinch-hitters, is wending its way through the internet, like Santa in the sky, and there'll be eighty million gajillion amazing stories to read in the morning: presents in the intertubes.

G'night, kids. Happy Yuletide.
